Taj
Mahal of Bhopal paints a sad picture of neglect.
It was the royal time when this beautiful palace used to
exist splendidly but today it’s nothing short of a Bhoot Bangla or a haunted palace.
The building was originally named Raj Mahal (“royal
palace”). The British Resident at Bhopal, highly impressed with the
architecture, suggested that the palace be renamed the Taj Mahal, the Taj Mahal
of Agra having been built by the Begum’s namesake Shah Jahan. The Bhopal’s Begum(Queen)
accepted the suggestion and the palace was renamed as Taj Mahal.
The Begum is said to have ordered a three-year-long
celebration called Jashn-e-Taj Mahal
after the completion of the building.
The Palace and its upkeep suffered greatly as a result of
Partition unfortunately the Palace is lying in ruins today and we can only pray
that the state government takes some steps to restore its lost glory.
It is said: “History
is a mirror of future” and the valued objects are like a remembering sign for
coming generation.

your heritage and save your future”
